13'8" x 13'11" Square Zigler Rug | Beige & Gold All Over Floral | Brand New Natural Wool

True squares this large are hard to find, and at 13'8" x 13'11" this one covers roughly 190 square feet of floor, which puts it squarely in the class of oversize square rugs that get specified for great rooms, square dining rooms and open double-height spaces. It is hand-knotted in natural wool on a cotton foundation, brand new and never used, with a full even pile and clean ivory fringe on both ends. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is handmade, knot by knot, along with its size, materials and origin.

Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. The field carries an open all over repeat of lotus palmettes, 8 petal rosettes, serrated leaves and small budded sprays, all joined by a thin vine scroll that wanders rather than marching in strict rows. The Zigler drawing style is deliberately spacious: motifs are large, outlines are soft, and there is plenty of quiet ground between them, which is why the pattern reads as texture from across a room and as detail up close. A 3 band border frames it, with a wide main band of alternating palmettes and rosettes set between narrow guard stripes of repeating leaf and blossom units, and all 4 corners resolved cleanly.

A Warm Beige and Gold Palette

The ground runs from pale beige through soft honey gold, with faint vertical striation across the field where the hand-spun wool takes dye at slightly different strengths. Against that, the motifs are drawn in sage green, camel, apricot and rust, outlined in ivory so they lift without ever jumping forward, and pinned with tiny crimson dots at the flower centers and in the guard stripes. The main border sits a shade deeper in a burnished camel gold, giving the square a visible edge on a light floor. For anyone building a neutral room, this belongs with the calmest beige and ivory rugs, warm rather than grey.

Origin and Weaving Quality

The Zigler name comes from Ziegler & Co., the Swiss firm that in the 1880s commissioned rugs with softened color and open, large-scale drawing for European and American interiors. That design language is now woven mainly in Pakistan, and this piece is honestly and proudly Made in Pakistan, where the best workshops still hand-spin their wool and weave on cotton warps at a weight and density you can feel when you fold a corner over. Handled up close the pile is thick and springy, the knotting is regular row to row, and the selvedges and fringe are finished by hand. If you are weighing how this kind of Oriental rug compares with other hand-knotted traditions, that guide lays out the differences plainly.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
