7'10" x 10'2" Soltani Ziegler Rug | Multi-Color Khorjin Stripe Panels | Fine Ghazni Wool, Never Used

This is a Soltani, the striped Khorjin format that the best Ziegler-style workshops reserve for their finest hand-spun wool. The field is built from roughly 30 narrow horizontal bands, each one a different ground color carrying its own small motif, and the whole run is framed by a wide ivory inner border, slim sage green guard stripes and a pale blue-gray outer band of boxed squares. At 7'10" x 10'2" it lands squarely in the most useful 8x10 area rug footprint, and as a hand-knotted Oriental rug it is brand new, never walked on, and ships with a certificate of authenticity that records the weave, the wool and the measurements exactly as listed above.

Design and Motifs

The Soltani drawing has no medallion and no repeating lattice. Instead, every band is a small self-contained story: rows of standing camels and deer in ivory outline, single-stalk cypress trees, stepped diamonds, 8 petal rosettes, tiny domestic huts and a long red stripe filled with boxed squares that read like a string of saddlebag panels. One charcoal band is planted with alternating animals and shrubs, while a slate blue band carries upright flowering stems with dark cores. The ivory inner border is deliberately quiet, scattered with small hooked crosses and rosettes so the eye has somewhere to rest before the outer band of red and green boxed squares closes the composition. That sampler logic is what collectors of tribal rugs look for, and it is drawn here with a steadier hand than most village work allows.

A Full Multi-Color Palette Held Together by Ivory

Color is the whole point of a Soltani, and this one runs the range without going loud. The strongest notes are brick red and a deeper oxblood, alternating with warm rust, terracotta and a honeyed camel gold that abrashes gently from band to band. Cooling those warm stripes are a muted sage green, a dusty slate blue and one soft pale blue that reads almost gray in daylight, plus two near-black charcoal bands that give the field its weight. Small accents of ivory, saffron, mauve and dark plum appear inside the motifs. The undyed ivory inner frame and the pale blue-gray outer border act as the brakes, so the finished rug sits comfortably among multi-colored rugs that work with wood, leather and stone rather than fighting them.

Woven in Pakistan from Fine Ghazni Wool

Pakistan's workshops are where a great deal of the world's serious hand-knotted production now happens, and the Soltani line is their high end. The pile is fine Ghazni wool, a long-staple highland fleece that is hand-spun rather than machine-spun, which is exactly why the color shifts softly across a stripe instead of sitting flat. It is knotted on a cotton foundation, clipped to a low even pile that keeps the small animal and tree figures legible, and finished with plain ivory fringes at both ends. The back is tight and regular, the selvages are firm, and the rug lies flat straight out of the roll. New, unused and in perfect condition, it is a piece that will take daily traffic for decades.
