8'1" x 9'10" Soltani Ziegler Rug | Multi-Color Banded Khorjin Panels | Fine Ghazni Wool, Brand New

This 8'1" x 9'10" Soltani is a contemporary hand-knotted Oriental rug built on the Ziegler weaving tradition, with a field organized into horizontal bands rather than a single central medallion. The pile is fine hand-spun Ghazni wool on a cotton foundation, which gives the surface a slight silkiness and lets the colors shift gently from one pass of yarn to the next. It has never been on a floor: the pile stands full, the fringes and selvedges are untouched, and the rug ships brand new with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a handmade, hand-knotted piece.

Design and Motifs

The Soltani drawing reads like a weaver's sampler. Roughly 14 horizontal bands cross the field, each one given its own motif vocabulary: rows of small cypress and tree of life figures, running combs and hooked triangles, stepped diamonds, 8 pointed stars in ivory, scalloped wave lines, and a band of single blossoms set on thin stems. Two narrow vertical panels run up the left and right sides in the manner of a khorjin saddlebag face, stacked with little compartments holding trees, grazing animals, latch hooks and checkerboards, so the eye is pulled both across and upward. The main border breaks from the field entirely, an open ivory ground carrying a repeating file of small leaf and rosette figures with bird-like paired forms at intervals. The result sits close to tribal rugs in spirit while staying far more orderly and drawn in a workshop-controlled hand.

A Multi-Color Field of Rust, Saffron and Indigo

Color is the point of this rug. The bands run through brick and rust red, deep madder red, saffron and mustard gold, soft caramel, denim blue, near-black indigo, olive and grass green, plum aubergine and clean ivory, each band separated from the next by a thin line in a contrasting tone. Abrash is visible and welcome, most clearly in the gold and caramel passes where the hand-spun wool takes dye unevenly and the shade drifts across the width. The border is the calm element, a pale sage and ivory ground that frames all of that activity and keeps the rug from feeling busy, with its small motifs picked out in red, blue, green and black. Because so many tones appear at full strength, this is a genuinely flexible piece for a room that already has committed colors in the upholstery or art.

Woven in Pakistan with Fine Ghazni Wool

Pakistan's weaving workshops, many staffed by families trained in the Afghan tradition, produce some of the most consistent hand-knotted work being made today, and Soltani and Ziegler designs are where that skill shows best. The wool is Ghazni, a long-staple highland fleece prized for luster and for how well it holds dye over decades of use. Knotting is tight and even, the bands hold their lines straight across the full 97" width, and the pile is clipped low enough to keep the small motifs legible. At just over 8x10 this is a standard room size that will sit under a seating group or a dining table with all legs on the rug.
