This 8'1" x 10'2" Oriental rug is a brand new, never used piece, hand-knotted in Pakistan with a wool and silk pile over a cotton foundation and drawn after a classic antique all over floral formula. The weave is even and tight enough to hold small drawing cleanly, the pile has a quiet sheen where the silk catches light, and the selvages and cream fringe are finished by hand. At just over 8 by 10 it sits squarely in the most useful room size there is, large enough to carry a full seating group and still leave a border of floor showing. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. The field carries a repeating all over composition built on a fine dark vine lattice, with ivory split-leaf palmettes standing upright along the center axis, deep green anchor-shaped palmettes stacked between them, and small hexagonal and diamond rosettes filling the diagonals. Blue and salmon blossoms, curled cloud bands and tiny serrated leaves sit in the spaces between, so the eye keeps finding another layer the closer it gets. The main border reverses the scheme onto a navy ground, running a heavy scrolling vine with large fan palmettes, vase forms and oak-shaped leaves in ivory, apricot and blue. Two narrow guard stripes, one an ivory reciprocal trefoil chain and one a small red and blue floral meander, frame the border on both sides and square the whole composition off. Repeating designs like this one are forgiving in a real room because furniture legs never interrupt a focal point, which is part of why the pattern remains a first choice in 8x10 area rugs.

The Rust, Navy and Green Palette

Rust does the heavy lifting: a warm brick red with a terracotta and faintly rose undertone, softer and dustier than a pure primary red, which is exactly what makes it easy to live with next to wood floors and leather. Against it the border reads inky navy, close to black in the shaded photographs and clearly indigo where the light hits it directly. The third voice is green, a deep bottle to emerald tone used only in the paired palmettes down the field, and it is what keeps the rug from being a simple red and blue piece. Around those three, ivory and cream carry the drawing and the outline work, salmon and apricot warm the border leaves, and two separate blues appear in the small florals, a light sky blue and a mid denim blue. Black outlining defines the vine lattice and sharpens every motif. The silk content shows up as a shift in tone rather than a shine, with the ivory and green areas brightening as you walk around the rug.

Woven in Pakistan and Why the Quality Holds Up

Pakistan's hand-knotting workshops, centered in and around Lahore and Peshawar, are among the few places still producing fine bench-woven work at this level of drawing, and they built that reputation by reproducing classic antique layouts with a disciplined knot count rather than cutting corners.
