This 8'10" x 12'1" hand-knotted Oriental rug is a brand new, never used piece woven in India on a cotton foundation with a 3/8" wool pile. The field is an unusual soft greyish blue, drawn edge to edge with floral work in camel, gold and ivory, and the whole composition is held inside a wide ivory main border. Photographs 2 and 3 show it laid flat on parquet, where the scale reads as a true room size rug that will cover a seating group or a full dining set without crowding the walls. Design and Motifs

The field carries an all over floral design with no central medallion, built from large serrated palmettes, curling acanthus leaves and thin scrolling vines that mirror across both axes. The close-up in photograph 4 shows how tightly the drawing is worked: an 8 petal rosette at the center of each repeat, small 5 petal blossoms, tulip buds, cypress-like sprays and tiny dotted stems filling the ground between the larger leaf forms. Two upright vase and blossom motifs sit near the ends of the field, and stepped corner brackets in gold frame the inner panel. The main border runs a classic turtle palmette and rosette sequence with linked cartouche shapes, flanked by a camel guard stripe on the inside and a narrow reciprocal trefoil stripe at the very edge, visible clearly in the corner photograph.

A Greyish Blue Field Framed in Ivory

The ground is a muted greyish blue with a distinct green cast, closer to sea glass or weathered teal than to a saturated navy, and it shifts slightly with the nap so that one end reads cooler and the other slightly warmer. Against it the ornament is drawn in camel and antique gold, warmed with soft rust and brick, lifted with ivory highlights and shaded with olive and deep sage in the leaf tips. Small accents of near black and dark aubergine punctuate the rosette centers and keep the drawing crisp. The wide main border reverses the scheme: an ivory to light cream ground carrying pale blue palmettes, rose pink blossoms, sage leaves and camel scrollwork, with the outer edge and fringe skirt returning to the same greyish blue as the field. The 3/8" wool pile is dense and springy underfoot, clipped low enough to hold the fine outlines of the vine work yet heavy enough to take traffic in a living room or dining room for decades. Selvedges are tight, the ends are finished with an even hand-tied ivory fringe, and the rug lies flat with square corners straight out of storage. Nothing has been used, walked on or repaired: this is a new weaving in perfect condition.
