Measuring 8'10" x 12'9", this hand-knotted Jaipur rug has the presence of a classical workshop piece and the crispness of wool that has never seen a floor. The field is a deep ink black, drawn edge to edge with gold, coral and sage flowerheads, and the wide ivory border repeats the same botanical language at a larger scale so the design never feels cut off at the edges. Every knot is tied by hand on a cotton foundation, the wool pile is full and reflective, and the drawing holds its line through all 4 corners. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. Instead the weaver used a continuous all over floral design, built on a lattice of thin scrolling vines that travel the full length of the field and tie every element to the next. Large lotus palmettes sit at the vine junctions, each one drawn in concentric rings of gold, coral and red around a dark center, alternating with open 8 petal rosettes and smaller cusped blossoms. Long serrated leaves curve away from the stems and bracket the bigger flowerheads, and small clusters of buds and berries fill the spaces between so the black ground reads as a dark sky rather than empty space. The main border repeats a rhythm of split palmettes and feathered leaf sprays on an ivory ground, framed on both sides by narrow guard stripes: a pale green vine meander on the inner edge and a black stripe of small gold blossoms at the outer selvage. The pattern is mirrored across the long axis, which is why the rug looks balanced from either end of a room.

Black Ground With Gold, Coral and Green

The field is a genuine black, with a faint blue depth in raking light rather than a flat dyed tone, and it does the work of making every other color look brighter than it is. Against it the palette runs through saffron gold and warm apricot in the palmette rings, coral and tomato red in the petal outlines, olive and sage green in the leaves, and a soft deep burgundy in the shadowed flower centers.
