9'10" x 13'10" Indian Rug | Light Brown & Gold All Over Floral | Brand New, Never Used

This is a brand new, never used 9'10" x 13'10" Indian rug, hand-knotted by hand on a cotton foundation with a 3/8" wool pile and finished at a generous room size that covers a full seating group without crowding the walls. The drawing is classical, the palette is quiet, and the wool has the soft matte sheen that good hand-spun yarn develops the moment light moves across it. Photographed flat in image 1 and on the floor in images 2 and 3, it reads as a warm light brown field wrapped in a broad ivory and gold border, the kind of neutral traditional Oriental rug that works under dark wood, under linen upholstery, and under almost any wall color. Design and Motifs

The field carries a full all over floral design with no central medallion dominating the composition. Large sunburst palmettes anchor the four quarters of the field, linked by thin curling vines that carry lotus blossoms, small 8 petal rosettes, serrated leaves and slender cypress-like tendrils. Running down the center line are three small quatrefoil ornaments picked out in ivory, each one outlined with a fine dotted edge, and the close-up in image 4 shows how cleanly the weavers held those outlines at this scale. The main border is the other half of the story: a wide ivory ground filled with alternating shield cartouches and stellar rosettes, each one a different combination of green, blue, rust and brown, so the eye never falls into a repeat. Two narrow guard stripes frame it, the inner one a vine of tiny blossoms, the outer a dark brown floral meander that stops the ivory from bleeding into the room. The corner detail in image 5 shows how the border turns, with the corner resolution drawn properly rather than cut off mid motif.

A Light Brown Field with Gold, Sage and Soft Rose

The ground is light brown, closer to milky coffee than to chocolate, and it moves. Hand-spun wool takes dye unevenly by nature, so horizontal bands of slightly warmer cinnamon and cooler taupe drift across the field, giving the surface depth that a flat machine-dyed brown never has. Against that ground the ornament is worked in old gold, wheat, sage and olive green, ivory and cream, with soft salmon rose on the rosettes and small touches of pale slate blue on the central quatrefoils and scattered blossoms. The main border shifts the balance completely: a light ivory to pale gold ground that lifts the whole rug, with its cartouches filled in muted teal green, denim blue, terracotta and walnut brown. The outer guard band returns to brown, and the fringe finishes in a natural undyed ivory. Note that image 1 was shot flat under brighter light and reads warmer, while images 2 and 3 show the rug on a wood floor under room light, where the brown deepens. The truth sits between the two.
