Design and Motifs

Several vase forms with splayed branches anchor the vertical axis, and a small stylised standing figure is tucked beside one palmette near the middle, the kind of personal note a weaver adds by hand. The main border is a panel band of square compartments that alternate boxed knot rosettes, quatrefoil bow motifs and grid-filled medallions, every one framed in ivory, with narrow guard stripes of circles and hooked arrowheads running inside and out. Because there is no central medallion competing for attention, this behaves as a true all over design, so a sofa or dining table can sit anywhere on it without cutting the pattern in half.

Reading the Light Natural Palette
