This is a brand new, never used 9'8" x 13' Chobi Peshawar rug woven by hand in the Ziegler manner, with a warm cocoa brown field and a wide beige to soft gold border. Everything about it is built for a long life on the floor: a cotton foundation, hand-spun wool pulled down to a tight 5/16" pile, and natural dyes that have already been washed to a mellow, low-glare tone rather than left bright. At 116" by 156" it fills a generous room without crowding it, and the all over drawing means there is no single medallion to center, so furniture can sit anywhere on it. Design and Motifs

The field is a classic Ziegler lattice: slim ivory vines cross and re-cross to form a wide diamond trellis, and at each junction sits a broad palmette or a serrated rosette, drawn large and spaced with real air around it. Close up you can see how little repetition there actually is, with leaf forms, small buds and curling split-leaf sprays filling the gaps between the big blossoms so no two diamonds read exactly alike. The main border carries alternating brown-ground cartouches and pale leaf palmettes, separated by small paired scroll devices, and it is framed top and bottom by a narrow guard stripe of single brick-red rosettes set at even intervals. This kind of all over floral rug design is the most forgiving layout there is for a large room, because the pattern keeps working whether you see the whole rug or only the part left uncovered by a sofa and a coffee table.

Color and Palette

The field reads as a warm cocoa brown with an amber cast, and because the wool is hand-spun it takes dye unevenly by a shade or two, giving the ground a soft horizontal striation that moves with the light instead of sitting flat. Against that brown, the vines and blossoms come through in ivory and bone, with several palmettes shaded in a pale celadon green and others in a soft wheat gold; tiny crimson centers punctuate the larger flowers and are picked up again in the rosettes of the guard stripes. The border shifts the whole palette lighter, running from sand to a muted olive gold, with brown reserved for the cartouches and leaf outlines so the frame stays quiet. The overall effect is neutral and warm rather than dark: it sits comfortably with oak and walnut floors, cream walls, leather, and any room where you want depth underfoot without a strong red or navy taking over the scheme.

Origin and Weaving Quality

Chobi Peshawar rugs are woven in and around Peshawar in northern Pakistan, where weaving families have kept the Ziegler tradition alive on upright looms for generations. Chobi means wood, a reference to the plant and vegetable dyes, and the pieces are given a long wash after weaving that softens the color and the handle before the rug ever leaves the workshop. The back photograph tells the real story: even rows of hand-tied knots, straight cotton warps, and a clean selvage with hand-finished fringe, which is what separates a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug from a machine-made lookalike. The wool is tough highland fleece with natural lanolin still in it, so the 5/16" pile resists crushing in traffic lanes and cleans easily. This one has never been on a floor.
