This is a new, never used Chobi Peshawar rug woven in the Ziegler manner, hand-knotted knot by knot in natural hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation. The field is a quiet sage that sits between gray and green, and the drawing over it is deliberately open and low in contrast, so the rug reads first as tone and texture and only then as pattern. At 9' x 11'9" it is a true room size in the 9x12 rug range, wide enough to carry a sofa with flanking chairs or a dining table with the chairs pulled back and still show border on all 4 sides. The wool is soft and slightly lustrous where the light crosses it, the pile is even, the selvages are tight and the ends are finished with short original fringe, as the corner and tag photos show. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. The field carries a classic Ziegler all over design, a continuous thin vine that curves across the whole surface and links large open rosettes, lobed palmettes, curled split-leaf arabesques and small 5 petal blossoms from selvage to selvage. Down the center line the weaver placed 4 larger cream rosettes at even intervals, which gives the eye something to settle on without turning the rug into a formal medallion layout. The scale of the drawing is generous, with plenty of bare field between elements, so furniture legs never chop the pattern into fragments. The border system is a wide ivory main band flanked by narrow guard stripes: the main band runs its own meandering vine with square rosette cartouches spaced along it, and the corners are resolved cleanly rather than cut off, which is a good sign of a well drawn cartoon.
