This is a brand new, never used 9' x 12' Chobi Ziegler, hand-knotted in natural wool on a cotton foundation with a low 1/4" pile that lets the drawing stay crisp underfoot. The whole piece is built on a soft light blue ground, so it behaves like a quiet neutral in a room rather than a statement of color, and the beige vinework reads almost like a faded fresco. Design and Motifs

The field carries a classic Ziegler all over design with no central medallion, so the pattern repeats calmly from end to end and the rug can be turned or shifted without breaking its balance. Large lobed cartouches anchor the four corners and the mid field, linked by broad scrolling vines that swell into split palmettes, curling serrated leaves and 8 petal rosettes. Between the big forms the weavers filled in small star flowers, tiny cruciform buds and feathered leaf sprays, which is what keeps the surface interesting when you stand directly over it. The border is drawn in the same soft beige as the field motifs, so the frame reads as a gentle edge rather than a hard stop, finished with a narrow guard stripe and plain ivory fringe at both ends. Each motif is outlined in a slightly darker taupe grey, a detail visible in the close-up photographs, and that single outline is what gives a low pile rug this much depth.

A Soft Light Blue and Beige Palette

The ground is a soft light blue with a grey cast, closer to sea glass or weathered denim than to a saturated navy, and it shifts slightly with the nap so one end looks a touch cooler than the other. Over it the vines and palmettes run in warm beige and sand, with the lightest passages lifting to ivory in the large cartouches and along the border. Motif outlines are a muted taupe grey, and there are quiet notes of pale sage green in some of the leaf sprays and a faint apricot warmth where the beige is deepest. Nothing here is bright. Chobi Ziegler Weaving in Pakistan

Chobi takes its name from the word for wood, a reference to the plant and vegetable dye tradition these workshops work in, and the Ziegler style is the softened, open drawing that pairs with it. Pakistan is where this particular Oriental rug tradition is now at its strongest, with hand-spun wool, natural dyes and a controlled post-weave wash that gives the color its mellow, already lived-in tone. The back photograph shows the knotting clearly: even rows, a tight and regular grid, with the pattern reading nearly as sharply from the reverse as from the face.
