This is a finely woven, brand new 9' x 12' hand-knotted rug in the Tabriz floral tradition, made in China with a wool pile carrying silk highlights on a cotton foundation. The field is a quiet sage-tinted beige, and the drawing is worked almost entirely in soft golds, ivories, olives and small flashes of rust, which is why the rug reads as a neutral from across the room and only shows its detail when you stand over it. The pile is clipped low and evenly, so the curved vinework stays crisp and the silk passages catch the light as you walk past. It is a classic Oriental rug in the formal floral idiom, and it arrives never used, with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is genuinely hand-knotted.

Design and Motifs

The layout is an open all-over floral composition rather than a single medallion, built on a thin curved vine that travels the length of the field and links large split palmettes, lotus blossoms and 8 petal rosettes. Between the big blooms sit small serrated leaves, buds and paired cloud-band tendrils, drawn fine enough that several of them are only a few knots wide. The field is framed by a rose-tan main border of alternating palmettes and leafy sprays, set between two narrow guard stripes of 4 petal flowerheads on a gold vine, and the drawing turns cleanly through all 4 corners, which is the mark of a properly followed cartoon rather than an improvised repeat. A Sage-Tinted Beige Field With Gold, Rust and Olive

The ground colour is a warm beige with a distinct green cast, closer to sage and dry sand than to cream, and it shifts a little with the light: cooler and paler in the flat overhead shot, warmer and sandier in the pile close-ups. The flowers are worked in antique gold and honey, pale ivory, celadon and olive green, with brick rust used sparingly as an outlining colour to give each blossom an edge.
