This is a brand new hand-knotted Chobi Zigler measuring 10'1" x 13'7", woven in the Peshawar workshops from handspun natural wool on a cotton foundation and never used. Chobi refers to the wood-based natural dye tradition these weavers work in, and it shows in the low-contrast palette: a soft walnut brown field, a wide peach border and gold drawing that reads warm rather than bright. It is a true room-size piece that covers a seating group or a 10 seat dining table without crowding the walls, which puts it squarely in the most requested band of 10x14 area rugs. Design and Motifs

The field carries a classic Zigler all over floral design with no central medallion, so the pattern repeats calmly across the whole 13'7" length and takes furniture well. Large lotus palmettes sit on a scrolling vine, flanked by long serrated saz leaves that curve like blades and small 8 petal rosettes dotted with dark brown centers. The drawing is deliberately generous in scale, which is what separates a Zigler from a busy floral: you can read each palmette from standing height across the room. Three borders frame the field, a wide peach main band of alternating palmettes and cypress-like leaf clusters, held between narrow gold guard stripes of running vine and small blossoms. The corners resolve cleanly, the same motif turning the corner without being cut short, which is a fair indicator of a competent cartoon and a disciplined weaver.

A Walnut Brown Field Warmed by Peach and Gold

The ground is a muted walnut brown that shifts between cocoa and soft taupe as the light moves across the pile, the natural abrash of handspun wool rather than any flaw. Against it, the ornament is drawn in honey gold and apricot, with lighter cream and buff highlights inside the palmettes and small accents of sage green in the leaf tips. Deep aubergine and near-black brown are used sparingly, only in flower centers and a few tiny rosettes, and those dark points are what keep the whole palette from going flat. The main border lifts to a warm peach that is a full shade lighter than the field, and the outermost guard reads almost antique gold. The overall effect is a neutral, earth-tone rug that sits comfortably with brown leather, walnut and oak furniture, cream walls and brass, and it is far easier to live with than a red or navy piece of this size.

Peshawar, in northwest Pakistan, has become one of the most reliable sources of good hand-knotted work in the world, and the Chobi Zigler is its signature product. The wool is handspun rather than machine-spun, which means the yarn takes dye unevenly on purpose and gives the finished surface the gentle tonal movement you can see in the field. The back photograph shows a tidy, even knot line with straight rows and no pulling, the cotton warp running clean, and the selvages are hand-wrapped in brown wool with the fringe left as a plain finished end. The pile has been sheared to a medium-low height, which sharpens the drawing and makes a rug this size practical under a dining table where chairs need to slide. It is heavy, dense and brand new, with no wear, no repairs and no fading anywhere on the surface.
