The drawing is drawn slightly loose and open, which is what keeps a rug this large from feeling busy. The wide main border repeats a rhythm of shield-shaped rosette panels separated by upright leaf sprays and small blossoms, and it is held between narrow guard stripes carrying a running vine with reciprocal trefoils. Because the pattern is directionless, the rug can be turned end for end or rotated in the room without the design ever reading upside down.

Chocolate Brown, Ivory and Sage: The Color Story

The field is a warm mid chocolate with a mocha cast, and the wool takes light unevenly in the best way, so the ground shifts between coffee and soft taupe depending on where you stand.
