This is a big, quiet, decorator-grade floor piece: 12'8" x 16'8" of hand-knotted wool on a cotton foundation, drawn in the classic Oushak manner and finished to look as though it has lived in a house for fifty years. At 152 inches wide it sits firmly among the true oversize rugs, the size that covers a full great room and still tucks under the furniture on all 4 sides. The pile is a low 3/8", which is exactly why the drawing reads so clearly in the overhead photograph, and the wool has a matte, chalky surface rather than a bright sheen. Design and Motifs

There is no medallion here. The field carries a full all over design built from staggered rows of broad serrated palmettes, open 8 petal rosettes, tulip-like blossoms and lozenge-shaped florettes, all strung together by thin arcing vines that swing from one motif to the next. The drawing is deliberately generous and slightly angular, the Oushak habit of enlarging a floral repeat until each element can be read from across the room. Look at the close-ups and you can see how each palmette is outlined twice, once in rust and once in slate blue, so the shape holds its edge even where the pile is low. The border system runs 5 bands deep: a wide main border of alternating rosettes and leafy sprays, flanked by narrow reciprocal guard stripes of tiny repeating boxes and hooks, with the corners resolved cleanly rather than cut off mid motif.

Color: Ivory, Sage and Faded Rust

The ground is the whole story. It shifts between pale ivory and a soft celadon sage, pooling slightly warmer and more golden toward the center of the field and cooler at the edges, the kind of movement you only get from hand-dyed wool. Over that ground the motifs are worked in muted camel, dusty gold and a faded brick rust that never turns loud, with slate and powder blue used sparingly on leaf interiors and rosette centers to cool everything down. The main border warms into a soft terracotta and apricot tone, so the eye registers a frame without a hard color break, while the narrow guard stripes pick up navy-leaning blue against ivory.
