This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted Jaipur rug measuring 7'7" x 11'8", woven in wool on a cotton foundation with a 3/8" pile that still stands crisp and full. The drawing is the classical formula done properly: a dense ivory field carrying a scalloped rose and navy medallion, framed by a wide navy floral border and a run of narrow guard stripes. At this size it covers a full seating group or a 8 seat dining table, and it sits comfortably among the best contemporary Oriental rug production. Design and Motifs

The center holds an 8 petal navy rosette ringed by a rose lotus star, which opens outward into a large scalloped cartouche and then into a lobed medallion outline that reaches almost the full width of the field. Around it the ivory ground is filled edge to edge with curling vine, palmettes, serrated leaves and small multi-petal blossoms, all drawn with a curved line rather than the angular village shorthand. Pendant finials extend above and below the medallion, and the 4 corners carry navy spandrels with matching floral fill. The border system runs 7 bands deep: a broad navy main border of alternating palmettes and rosettes, flanked by rose and ivory guard stripes of repeating flower heads.

Ivory, Navy and Rose in the Palette

The field is a soft ivory, closer to cream than bright white, with enough warmth in it to sit well against oak, walnut and honey toned floors. The main border is a deep navy, almost inky where the wool catches the light, and it is what gives the rug its weight and definition from across a room. Between the two runs a dusty rose that shades toward terracotta in the medallion and secondary borders. Filling the vine work are warm brown, soft gold, sage green, pale powder blue and small notes of charcoal, so the field reads as a finely textured whole rather than a flat cream ground.
